CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s basketball team defeated the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales Monday, 75-68.

After falling behind early, the Pride (3-4) used a 6-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. Torrence Outing tallied five of his nine points during the run, while Trevin Miller connected on one free throw.

Greensboro then went on to establish its largest lead of the half at 27-19, following an 8-0 run, before trailing 38-37 at the break.

Over the first four minutes of the second half, Greensboro used a 12-0 run to charge in front of the Wildcats (5-6) 50-40. Donavan Griffith and Simeon Howard combined for all the points during the spurt.

Once the Pride established the double-digit lead, the Wildcats outscored Greensboro 14-5 over the next five minutes of play to pull within 57-56.

However, the Pride once again pulled away to establish its largest lead of the game at 70-59. In the five-minute span that allowed Greensboro to pull away, Hamilton Hawkins, Lorenzo Marry, Parris Scales, and Griffith combined to outscore the Wildcats 13-3.

The Widcats then pulled back to within five with just under a minute to play, but Scales connected on an assisted dunk from Joseph Gatling to secure the seven point victory.

“I felt like we grew as a basketball team tonight,” Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. “Tonight was a very good road win against a very good Johnson & Wales team in a hostile environment. I am very excited that we were able to go into the Christmas break on a positive note.”

Howard finished with a team-high 18 points going along with a team-leading 11 rebounds. Griffith also finished in double figures scoring with 15, while Scales chipped in 12 points.

The Pride will return to the court Dec. 29 at 5 p.m. against Dickinson College in the Guilford College Holiday classic. For more information on the Pride men’s basketball team, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
