RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University men’s basketball freshman Tyler Seibring has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday, Dec. 21.
Seibring averaged 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in Elon’s 2-0 week. For the week, he was 7-of-14 from 3-point range and also grabbed six rebounds in each contest as the Phoenix extended their winning streak to five games.
The freshman forward tied a season-high with 12 points in a 91-74 victory over Alabama State on Wednesday, Dec. 16, and then topped it with 13 points in a win over UNCG on Saturday, Dec. 19. The native of Towanda, Ill., was 3-of-5 from behind the three-point line against the Spartans, while adding six rebounds and two blocked shots.
Seibring becomes the second Phoenix player to earn CAA Rookie of the Week honors and is Elon’s third overall CAA weekly honor this season. Freshman Dainan Swoope was tabbed Rookie of the Week on Nov. 23 and senior Tanner Samson was named Player of the Week on Dec. 7.
The Phoenix is back in action tonight on the road against a red-hot UNC Asheville team that has won five straight. Tip off at Kimmel Arena is set for 7 p.m.
