HPU Women’s Hoops Back In Action At Presbyterian

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team returns to the court on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Clinton, S.C. to take on Presbyterian.

LAST TIME OUT
• Junior Kaylah Keys scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to lead a comeback at Elon on Saturday, Dec. 16. However, the attempt fell short as the Phoenix earned an 80-69 win.
• Keys finished the game with 15 points and in the process passed Cheyenne Parker for fifth on HPU’s Division I career scoring list.
• Freshman Shea Morgan joined Keys in double figures with 10 points as the Panthers’ bench poured in 45 points in the contest.
• Redshirt-freshman Kennedy Currie posted a season high with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor.
• The Purple & White went 14-of-16 from the free throw line.
• The freshman class scored 42 of the team’s 72 points in the setback.
• All 11 players that stepped on the floor for the Panthers scored at least two points.

KEYS’ CLIMB
• HPU’s seven freshmen are logging 63 percent of the team’s minutes and are scoring 54 percent of HPU points and grabbing 64 percent of the squads steals this season.

The ‘Keys’ to the Purple & White
• Junior Kaylah Keys is the second-highest active scorer in the Big South Conference behind Liberty’s Ashley Rininger.
• Keys is sixth on HPU’s Division I scoring list with 1,202 points in just two-plus seasons.
• The Southaven, Miss. native is second all-time at HPU with 155 3-pointers made in her career. Her 155 made 3’s are fourth among third-year players nationally.

YOUTH IS SERVED
• HPU’s seven freshmen are logging 63 percent of the team’s minutes and are scoring 54 percent of HPU points and grabbing 64 percent of the squads steals this season.

SCOUTING THE BLUE HOSE
• The Blue Hose are off to a 4-6 start on their season with a 1-1 record in conference play splitting contests against UNC Asheville and at Longwood.
• Like HPU, PC didn’t win a non-conference game against Division I foe with its wins coming over Warren Wilson, Brevard and Columbia College.
• Freshman Taylor Petty comes off the bench to lead the team in scoring (12.7 ppg). She’s the top scoring freshmen in the Big South and shoots 35 percent from beyond the arc.
• The 2014-15 Big South Freshman of the Year Cortney Story (8.0 ppg and 3.6 apg) is joined in the backcourt by fellow sophomore Janie Miles (6.7 ppg).
• Junior Arianna Kelly plays on the wing and leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per contest while Rebecca Walker, another junior, starts at a forward spot and posts 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per outing.
•Defense and pace is the name of the game for the Blue Hose who hold opponents to 38 percent shooting and 57.5 points per game.

ALL-TIME SERIES WITH PRESBYTERIAN
• The Purple & White own a 13-3 lead in the all-time series with Presbyterian.
• HPU has won all eight meetings in the Millis Center, but is just 4-3 in the Templeton Center including three straight loses.
• The squads split the regular season meetings in 2014-15 before HPU earned a win in the Big South quarterfinals.

LAST TIME THEY MET
• The Panthers bested the Blue Hose by a score of 75-62 in the quarterfinals.
• Junior Kaylah Keys scored in double figures in all three meetings with PC last season with 18 points at home, 13 in Clinton and 10 in the Big South tournament.
