Tonight was the Semi-Finals of the Sheetz Holiday Classic here at the Ranch as the Cowboys of Southwest played host to the Eagles of Uwharrie Charter Academy.

The Cowboys are still unbeaten and coming off a blowout of their first round opponent Oxford Prep, 86-35. The Eagles come into tonight following a tough first round win over Kilsyth (out of Australia) with a game winner with just 2 seconds to play. The Eagles are hoping to keep up the momentum from last night by knocking off the tournament hosts.

The game opened up with the teams trading baskets with the Eagles tying the game up at 4 apiece. From there the Cowboys went on a 9-0 run to go up 13-4. Then a uptick in defensive energy by the hosts put another 12-4 run together to close out the opening quarter at 25-8.

The second quarter displayed some more defensive pressure by the Cowboys which limited the Eagles to very few open looks and force a multitude of turnovers. In short it was 40-8. It wasn’t until the midway through the frame that the Eagles got on the board for the frame.

The Cowboys’ Keyshaun Langley scorched the nets with 20 points in the opening half. To the Eagles’ credit they put some baskets together to close out the half at 55-20.

The second half opened up with an alley-oop dunk by the Cowboys which got the crowd to their feet. Another possession later, and the running clock came into play as the Cowboys once again put the clamps down defensively ending the quick frame at 67-23.

The final stanza was over in a blink as the Cowboys’ bench closed out the game strong defensively as well at 78-28.

The Eagles were led by Jon Rush with 13 points.
