HPU WBB Hosts Charleston Southern on Monday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team looks to get 2016 started off right as it entertains Charleston Southern in the Millis Center on Monday at 7:00 p.m.

The Panthers (3-9, 2-1) and the Bucs (7-6, 2-2) each fell to Presbyterian in their last contests and will aim to remain among the conference leaders with a win.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Panthers went on their first road trip in conference play and fell 82-70 to Presbyterian on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
• Sophomore Kat Harris led three members of the Purple & White scoring in double figures with a career-high 17 points.
• Freshman Emma Bockrath chipped in with 14 points while junior Kaylah Keys added 11 points in the setback.
• Sophomore Bre Davis continued her solid play with a season-best performance tallying eight points and knocking down two 3-pointers.
• Despite taking the loss, the Panthers won the rebounding battle 33-31 behind eight boards from Bockrath and five from freshman Haleigh Hatfield.
• HPU continued to shoot well from the charity stripe going 14-of-17 on free throws.

KEYS’ CLIMB
• Junior Kaylah Keys is the second-highest active scorer in the Big South Conference behind Liberty’s Ashley Rininger.
• Keys is sixth on HPU’s Division I scoring list with 1,213 points in just two-plus seasons.
• The Southaven, Miss. native is second all-time at HPU with 156 3-pointers made in her career. Her 156 made 3’s are fourth among third-year players nationally.

YOUTH IS SERVED
• HPU’s seven freshmen are logging 63 percent of the team’s minutes and are scoring 54 percent of HPU points and grabbing 64 percent of the squads steals this season.

SCOUTING THE BUCS
• One of the most improved teams in the conference, the Buccaneers are 7-6, 2-2 on the year after finishing last season with a 5-25 mark overall and a 1-19 record in Big South action.
• Leading the turnaround is junior Alyssa Mann who paces the team in scoring (15.3/game), assists (2.9/game) and steals (1.9/game).
• In the paint, senior Monique Maximillien is leading the team with 8.5 rebounds per contest while chipping in with 8.5 points a night.
• Like HPU, Charleston Southern is coming off a double-digit loss to Presbyterian. The Bucs suffered a 63-49 setback to the Blue Hose on Saturday in the Buc Dome.
• The team’s wins in conference have come against Winthrop (54-51) and at Longwood (63-54). The squad’s other loss came at Liberty by a score of 51-40.
• Sophomore Shauntavia Dobson is scoring 9.5 points per game, but has upped her average to 13.0 points per contest in league action.

ALL-TIME SERIES
• The Purple & White own a 24-12 lead in the all-time series with Charleston Southern.
• HPU is 14-4 at home against the Bucs and have one the last three meetings between the two programs.

LAST TIME THEY MET
• The Panthers beat CSU by a combined score of 169-104 with a 92-60 win at home and a 77-44 road victory.
• Junior Kaylah Keys averaged 13 points in the squad’s two wins over the Bucs last season. Meanwhile, sophomore Kat Harris has a season-best 12 points in the home game.
