Elon’s Matheny Teams Up with Subway in Fundraising to Benefit Coaches vs. Cancer

ELON, N.C. — Elon University head men’s basketball Matt Matheny is teaming up with locally-owned Subway restaurants in the Piedmont Triad in launching a special Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising campaign.

To help get the campaign started, Matheny will join local cancer survivors as guest sandwich artists during lunch the week of January 11. Matheny will be a sandwich artist at the Subway restaurant located on W. Lebanon Ave. on Elon’s campus on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from noon until 1 p.m.

Matheny is also scheduled to be a guest on WFMY’s Good Morning Show on Monday, Jan. 11, at 6:45 a.m. to talk about the fundraising campaign.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Locally, the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association has joined the effort to promote healthy living and raise awareness and support for the fight against cancer. There are current research grants from the American Cancer Society of $2.1 million in the Triad area.

From January 11 through February 22, the public is invited to visit any Subway restaurant in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point and surrounding areas to make a donation of any amount at the checkout, with all funds going directly to Coaches vs. Cancer to fund American Cancer Society research, education and patient support programs, such as lodging and transportation to medical appointments.

The Coaches vs. Cancer campaign runs through Monday, Feb. 22, with final proceeds to be presented at special event in late February.
