After making the game’s first three field goals, the Quakers (11-2, 5-1 ODAC) opened up the first quarter with a 10-3 lead after the first 4:20 of the opening quarter. Hollins pulled the lead to within three points 1:52 later, but the Quakers quickly extended their lead as large as ten to end the opening period. Guilford’s defense forced a Hollins scoring drought, lasting 4:42, that carried over into the second quarter where the Quakers extended their largest lead to 14 points 2:37 into the frame. The lead extended to 15 points with 5:27 left, but Hollins chipped away at the lead throughout the remainder of the period as the Quakers entered halftime up 11 points.

Hollins held the largest run of a largely see-saw third quarter with the hosts producing a 5-0 run after the Quakers opened the period extending their lead back to 13 points. Hollins cut Guilford’s lead to five points with 50 seconds left, but the Quakers answered back to enter the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead. Guilford’s lead re-entered double digits twice in a 1:49 span early in the period, but Hollins hung close and closed the lead to five points with 3:44 left. The Quakers pulled away with a 7-0 run to put the game out of Hollins’ reach as Ramsey and Anais Weatherly (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) combined to score eight of Guilford’s final nine points.

Weatherly earned her seventh double-double of the season, totaling 10 points and 11 rebounds to represent the remaining Quaker in double-figure scoring. Ramsey added eight rebounds to her career-high point total, shooting nine-of-16 from the field. With her last bucket, Ramsey eclipsed her previous career high (20 points), set at Emory & Henry February 19, 2015.

Hollins placed four players in double-figure scoring with Auburn Smith leading Hollins’ scorers with 15 points on seven-of-11 shooting with five rebounds and five assists. Sally Sroge added 13 points on five-of-eight shooting.

Guilford shot 35.9 percent from the field, powered by 41.9 percent second-half shooting. Hollins shot 37.5 percent thanks to a 48.1 percent shooting effort in the second half. The Quakers shot three-of-12 from three-point range while Hollins finished six-of-17 from beyond the arc. Free throws powered the Quakers’ offense, with Guilford shooting 16-of-21 from the charity stripe, including sinking their first seven free throws, while Hollins shot six-of-11.

The Quakers earned a 46-33 advantage on the glass against Hollins, including 18 offensive rebounds that powered the Quakers’ second-chance points, 23-5. Guilford jumped out to a 12-0 second-chance points advantage early in the contest. Both teams committed 18 turnovers, but Hollins held the advantage in points-off-turnovers, 16-8. Guilford’s bench dominated their counterparts, out-scoring Hollins’ reserves, 18-3.

The Quakers return home Saturday, hosting Shenandoah University for a 4:30 p.m. ODAC contest inside Ragan-Brown Field House.
