WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men’s basketball team suffered an 83-55 loss at the hands of Syracuse Saturday afternoon at the LJVM Coliseum. The defeat dropped the Demon Deacons to 10-7 on the season with a 1-4 mark in the ACC, while the Orange upped their record to 12-7 with a 2-4 league ledger.

Deacon freshman Doral Moore led the team with a career-high 10 points, while senior Devin Thomas finished with nine points and matched a game-high with 13 rebounds.

Sunday marked the first time all season the Deacs were limited to one double-figure scorer. They had six in their last game, a 93-91 loss at Virginia Tech.

Syracuse was paced by Trevor Cooney’s 25 points and a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double from Tyler Roberson.

After Cooney scored his team’s first 11 points to open up an 11-4 lead, the Orange used a 17-3 run to go ahead, 30-11. From there, the Deacs went on a 7-0 run to pull within 12, but could not pull any closer. The visitors scored eight of the half’s final 10 points to hand Wake Forest its largest halftime deficit of the season, 47-27.

The Orange continued to pad their lead in the second half, stretching its cushion to as many as 33 points en route to the victory.

The Deacs were limited to a season-low 32.6 shooting percentage from the field, including 10 percent from behind the arc.

Wake Forest is now set to face three-consecutive top-15 opponents. The Deacons travel to No. 5 North Carolina on Wednesday and No. 8 Miami on Saturday. They will return home the following Monday night to take on 13th-ranked Virginia.
