The 14th Annual MLK Day North Carolina Scholastic Classic will return to Greensboro Coliseum on Monday, January 18 beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now. Seating is general admission.

Want to get an early look at the future collegiate and professional stars of tomorrow? The N.C. Scholastic Classic will once again bring the best in prep hoops action to Greensboro for a four-game holiday hoops extravaganza (see schedule below).

Top players at this year’s Classic will include Dudley juniors Hendon Hooker, Brion Seagraves, Brandon Lamberth and Josh Hopkins, Trinity Christian’s senior point guard Mike Boykin and 6’ 7” freshman forwad Joey Baker and one of the top sophomores in the country…

In its first year (2003), the North Carolina Scholastic Classic brought future NBA superstar LeBron James to the Triad, drawing a crowd of 16,220, a North Carolina state record for a high school basketball game. Other future NBA stars that have appeared in the Scholastic Classic in Greensboro include Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Josh Smith (Los Angeles Clippers), Brandon Jennings (Detroit Pistons) and Ty Lawson (Houston Rockets).

About David West Foundation: David and Lesley West believe the movement of youth is the changing force in our world. With this belief, and through the personal philanthropy of him and his wife Lesley, they have made a mark on children of all socio-economic backgrounds. In over 11 years in the NBA, David and Lesley have given back to all the communities they have touched. Since coming to Indianapolis in 2011 they have hosted, in conjunction with corporate partners, the annual “Come to Our House” event where a Thanksgiving meal is served to over 650 men, women and children from Central Indiana shelters. Since the start of his professional career, David has given his personal time to mentor young men and women who participate in the Garner Road AAU (Raleigh, NC) basketball program.     I was interested to see the article in this morning’s N&R on the Baker kid from Trinity Christian. NW played them in early Dec in the Hoops Phenom Showcase held in Raleigh. NW smacked them around pretty good (won by 25) and the Baker kid didn’t do too much…only a couple of baskets by my recollection. However, for a freshman, he was clearly a kid in whom you could see some big potential. It would be interesting to see how he’s progressed since, and how he performs against some pretty good athletes at Dudley. Wish I could see it.
