College Indoor Track and Field Results – Guilford Competes in Day One of the Captains Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Guilford College completed day one of the two-day Captains Invitational inside the Freeman Center at Christopher Newport University. The meet featured flighted events as the Quakers competed against NCAA Division I opponents.

Yashua Clemons claimed sixth in the triple jump, and the fifth-best mark in school history, at 12.57 meters. Clemons missed the top-five by just .22 meters.

Josephus Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) narrowly missed qualifying for tomorrow’s 60 meter dash finals by .09 seconds with a time of 7.10 seconds. The time was also .14 seconds away from Guilford’s top-eight all-time finishes, all of which are sub-seven second times.

Becca Benfield led the women with a fourth-place finish in flight one of the weight throw, finishing with a mark of 9.53 meters. The mark stands seventh all-time in school history, her fifth mark within Guilford’s all-time top-eight throws.

Ava Nadel led the distance runners with a 22:40.76 in the 5,000 meter run. Nadel’s time is good for sixth all-time in school history, her fourth time in Guilford’s top-eight times all-time.

The Quakers continue tomorrow in day two of the Captains Invitational.
