Pride Softball Sixth In USA South Coaches Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team, under the direction of second-year head coach Becky Bishop, was picked sixth in the USA South Athletic Conference Coaches Poll, the conference announced Wednesday.

The Pride finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 22-22. Greensboro also finished third in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament after finishing sixth in the regular season with a 13-11 conference mark.

Greensboro, led by six seniors, returns 10 players from last year’s team, while welcoming four new faces.

“After finishing strong in the tournament last season, and only losing only two seniors, I anticipated a strong seed in the pre-season poll,” Head Coach Becky Bishop said. “We are happy to be where our fellow conference members placed us, and now the girls know what expectations need to be upheld and hopefully exceeded.

“We are looking forward to a strong 2016 campaign and battling hard for the conference title amongst a solid group of teams.”

Averett University, after winning the 2015 regular season crown, was named the pre-season favorite with nine first-place votes.

The Pride will get its 2016 slate underway Feb. 19 when they travel to take on the Wildcats of Randolph College. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.

Women’s Lacrosse Tabbed Third In USA South Coaches Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team has been picked to finish third in the upcoming USA South women’s lacrosse season, the conference announced Wednesday.

The Pride finished the 2015 season 8-6, going 4-2 in USA South Athletic Conference play.

Greensboro returns 11 players from last year, including second-team all-region member Kirstin Norris, while welcoming eight newcomers.

“Gauging the way we finished in the conference tournament last season, I feel that it was a fair overall placement,” second-year Head Coach Christie Hebert said. “Giving what we have returning, along with all the new faces, we have a lot to prove with our overall depth.

“We are really excited to see our program continue to grow and rise above the expectations our conference opponents set for us.”

Meredith College, which has won the last two conference championships, was picked as the preseason favorite.

The Pride women’s lacrosse team will open its season March 3 against Hollins University. For more information on the Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
