2016 Softball Preview-Guilford County

*****Just a few names and schools to start getting you warmed up and this info coming in from our softball pipeline…..*****
+++++The pipeline is on and running and the season is really not that far away….When February 1 gets here, the countdown is on….+++++

Northern Guilford: Only lost 2 from a State Runner-Up and 25-4 team which returns 3 previous All-State 3A Performers:
Makayla Barricks – 2014 All-State – superb defender, great speed
Caitlyn Ray (2B) – 2015 All-State – Great hitter, smart defensive player
Ashton Lambeth (P) – 2-time All-State – MidState 3A Conf Pitcher of the Year, 3A District 5 Co-Pitcher of the Year, State 3A-West Co-Pitcher of the year.
Also, lots of leadership in this program with other returning Senior starters Tewksbury (P), and MacEldowney (3B). Coach Dorrell will have extraordinarily high expectations entering in the 2016 season. Will look for Eastern Alamance and Morehead to be, once again, battling the Lady Nighthawks for the conference championship.

Northwest Guilford: Lost 1 to graduation from a team that lost out to the nationally ranked Alexander Central program in the 4A State Playoffs last year; with a record of 19-6. The Lady Vikings return 3 All-State 4A Honorees:
Becca Gold (2B) – 2015 All-State – top notch defender, solid offensive weapon
Samantha Tingler (SS) – 2-time All-State – PT4A Conference Co-Player of the Year
Gracen Staunton (P) – 2-time All-State – PT4A Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year, 4A District 5 Co-Pitcher of the Year.
Strong Senior leadership returning for the Lady Vikings with starters Spence (3B), Chaisson (P), Goddard (C) and Richey (3B). First year head Coach Shoemaker will lead a group that should be favored to again win the PT4A conference, but could see challenges from Glenn, SW Guilford (which lost a large group (6, I think) to graduation, but return a strong core of hitters and pitchers) and East Forsyth.

SE Guilford will be strong again in the Metro, but have some big shoes to fill with the graduation of Strouth and Hessenthaler. Look for them to battle Southern Alamance once again for the top spot in the conference.

  1. Nice write-up!!
Hope that Northern and NW can actually play each other this year – if the snow will cooperate! I think there is another Senior starter for NW Guilford – only one of the Langston sisters graduated last year. According to Maxpreps, Sarah Langston will be a returning Sr starter for NWG.
