Elon Ten’s Tennis Falls to No. 42 William & Mary in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team dropped its contest against CAA foe No. 42-ranked William & Mary 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

Suzanne Zenoni led the way for the Phoenix (0-3) earning Elon’s lone point against the Tribe (4-1) with a victory at No. 5 singles. She also teamed up with Olivia Lucas to win her No. 3 doubles match.

Lucas played well earning a doubles win with Zenoni and falling in a tough battle against ITA No. 91-ranked singles player Leeza Nemchinov. Nemchinov won the first set 6-4, but Lucas responded with a 6-4 victory in second set forcing a third set tiebreak. Nemchinov prevailed in the tiebreak, defeating Lucas 11-9 to earn the win.

Highlights
William & Mary clinched the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match after Marie Faure and Cecily Wuenscher defeated Taylor Casey and Erica Braschi 6-1 at the No. 2 position.

Zenoni and Lucas took a hard-fought 7-5 victory on the third court againt Olivia Thaler and Julia Casselbury.

In singles play, Faure clinched the victory for the Tribe with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kirsten Ward at the No. 3 spot after William & Mary earned victories on courts four and six.

Elon got on the board at No. 5 singles when Zenoni defeated Casselbury 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to earn a lone point for the Phoenix against the No. 42-ranked Tribe.

Elon head up the road to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face No. 64-ranked Wake Forest for a 10:30 a.m. match tomorrow morning. It will be the fourth-straight ranked opponent for the Phoenix to start the season.
