WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team fell to the No. 64th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons 7-0 on Saturday morning, Jan. 30, at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Erica Braschi and Taylor Casey had the best performance for the Phoenix (0-4) in doubles play. The Elon duo led 5-4 against Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko at No. 1 before the match was ended after Demon Deacons (4-0) clinched the doubles point.
Highlights
Wake Forest clinched the doubles point at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The Deacs went on to sweep singles play and earn the 7-0 win against the Phoenix. Emma Davis clinched the match for Wake Forest with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kirsten Ward at No. 2 singles.
Braschi and Casey battled in their singles matches at No. 3 and No. 6 respectively. Braschi fell 6-2, 6-2 against Ulyashchenko on the third court. Casey was defeated by Luisa Fernandez, 6-3, 6-2 on court six.
