UNCG and LJVM(Winston-Salem) to host NCHSAA Basketball Regional Finals

FAYETTEVILLE, GREENSBORO AND WINSTON-SALEM SET TO HOST NCHSAA EASTERN AND WESTERN REGIONAL BASKETBALL FINALS

CHAPEL HILL – Sites are set for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association regional basketball finals slated for Saturday, March 5.

In Fayetteville, games will be played at both the Crown Arena and Crown Coliseum. Fayetteville has been the host city for the Eastern Regionals’ Finals since the 2010-11 season.

Unlike last year, when Winston Salem games were played in both the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (LJVM) and the Annex, only four games will be played in Winston Salem this year, all in LJVM.

After a one-year absence, the city of Greensboro returns to the regional mix, with the University of NC Greensboro serving as the site for the other four finals games of the Western Regionals.

The Board of Directors at its spring meeting in May 2015, approved a change in the regional basketball format—fourth round (regional semifinals) will now be played at the home of the higher seed rather than a neutral site. (If there is an expressed concern relative to seating capacity, the NCHSAA will assist in determining if the fourth round game must be moved to a neutral high school gym.) The regional finals will remain at neutral sites. A determination of which games will be played at which site, along with game times, will be announced later. Cumberland County Schools in the East and the schools in Forsyth and Guilford Counties in the West will help host the games.

The winners from the regional finals advance to state championship games in Chapel Hill March 12.
