HPU Women’s hoops hosts Blue Hose on Saturday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team returns to the court on Saturday at 2 p.m. to host Presbyterian College in the Millis Center.

The Panthers (7-13, 6-5) had a week off after a 56-43 setback at Liberty on Jan. 30. Meanwhile, the Blue Hose (13-8, 9-3) is sitting alone in third place in the Big South standings after a commanding 75-49 victory over Longwood on Monday.

Last Time Out
• The Panthers couldn’t get their offense going shooting 29.8 percent from the floor and fell 56-43 at Liberty on Saturday afternoon in the Vines Center.

• Freshman Lindsey Edwards led the Purple & White with 10 points, three rebounds and four steals in the contest.

• Freshman Emma Bockrath tallied nine points while collecting four rebounds.

• Freshman Haleigh Hatfield grabbed eight boards to go along with two steals and four points.

• The Panthers’ defense forced 24 turnovers and held Liberty to 9-of-26 shooting in the first half, but couldn’t convert the extra opportunities committing 20 turnovers of their own.

Youth Movement
• HPU’s seven freshmen are logging 64 percent of the team’s minutes and are scoring 58 percent of HPU points and grabbing 58 percent of the squad’s steals this season.

• On Monday, Emma Bockrath became the third Panther to win Freshman of the Week this year, more than any other Big South squad.

Junior Kaylah Keys has scored 1,296 career points and is 27 away from tying Katie O’Dell for third on the school’s Division I scoring list.

Scouting the Blue Hose
• The Blue Hose is 6-1 in its last seven with the lone loss coming at UNC Asheville. In the stretch, the team earned an 18-point win over Liberty.

• After being picked to finish seventh in the preseason, PC finds itself sitting alone in third and just a game behind the league leaders.

• PC is second in the league in scoring (64.0 ppg) and in points allowed (55.0 ppg).

• The Blue Hose offense is hitting 41.5 percent of its shots and 31.7 percent from beyond the arc – both third in the league. Meanwhile, the dish out a league-best 12.9 assists per game.

• Freshman Taylor Petty (12.2 ppg) paces the offense on the strength of 53 three-pointers.

All-Time Series with Presbyterian
• HPU owns a 13-4 record against the Blue Hose, but is 5-4 in DeUnna Hendrix’s tenure.

• The home team has won the last seven contests in the series dating back to Jan. 30, 2012.

Kat Harris, Emma Bockrath and Kaylah Keys combined for 41 points in the 82-70 setback in Clinton, S.C. on Dec. 29.
