ELON, N.C. – After a weeklong break, the Elon University women’s track and field team is back in competition this weekend with the Phoenix traveling to Geneva, Ohio, for the Spire Institute Division I Challenge on Feb. 12-13.

Phoenix Prelims
• Elon is traveling to its first meet outside of North Carolina as a full squad this indoor season with its trek to the Spire Institute Division I Challenge this weekend.
• Among 26 athletes are scheduled to compete this weekend for the maroon and gold.
• The Phoenix currently has four individual athletes that have qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championship meet in Boston on March 4-5.
• Jen Esposito has qualified for the ECACs in three different events (400-meters, 500-meters and the 800-meters). She also has qualified as a member of the Phoenix’s 4×400-meter relay team.
• Sydney Griffin has also qualified for the ECACs in multiple events. The Marietta, Ga., native qualified in the 200-meter dash at the Camel City Invitational with her season-best time of 24.68. She also qualified for the meet in the 60-meter hurdles with her personal-best and school-record time of 8.49.
• Carrie Abraham also earned a spot for the ECACs in the triple jump with her personal-best mark of 39’ 3.25”.
Last Time Out
Elon last competed at the prestigious Camel City Invitational on Jan. 29-30. The Phoenix’s Tereza Novotna qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships with her second-place finish in the 3,000-meters. The Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic native ran a time of 9:47.82 in the race.
Jen Esposito was third overall in the 400-meters with her time of 56.09 and was the second overall collegiate runner in the race. The Mansfield, Mass., native then helped the Phoenix’s 4×400-meter relay team of Lydia Laws, Desiree Ross and Lauren Brzozowsk turned in a great performance in the race with the quartet clocking in 3:53.59 for a third-place finish. It is a new indoor-best time for the group.
Sydney Griffin nearly set a new personal-best mark in the 200-meter dash with her time of 25.06.
Megan Kirschling was tied for third overall in the high jump with a cleared height of 5′ 6.5″ (1.69m). Carrie Abraham was tied for fourth in the long jump with her best leap of 17′ 5.25″ (5.31m). Lydia Laws also earned a spot into the top-10 of the long jump with her mark of 17′ 3.25″ (5.26m).

The Phoenix competes in its final indoor meet of the regular season at the Penn State Tune-Up on Feb. 20.
