The Piedmont Triad 4A Conference Semifinals pitted the #1 seeded Southwest Guilford Cowboys against the #4 seeded East Forsyth Eagles.

The Eagles overcame and held off the Ragsdale Tigers last night in the opening round with the Cowboys coming off a first round bye. The Cowboys swept the Eagles in the regular season, but beating the same opponent three times in the same season is not an easy thing to do. The Eagles are hosting this year’s tournament and come into tonight feeling good.

The game opened up with an East Forsyth basket giving them an early 2-0 lead, and after a Cowboy miss the Eagles made a free throw to go up 3-0. It wasn’t until the 5:50 mark that the Cowboys got on the board making it 3-2. The Eagles quickly got another basket taking it 5-2, but on the ensuing possession a Cowboys three pointer tied the game up at 5 with 3:47 to go in the quarter. A couple of possessions later the Eagles went back up at 7-5, but yet again a Cowboy three pointer gave the Cowboys the lead for the night at 8-7. From there, Southwest closed the frame out with a slim lead of 13-11.

The second quarter had the Cowboys push the margin to 9 but the Eagles refused to let the gap get any wider in the stanza. So the gap stayed steady until the half closed at 31-22.

The second half was owned by the Cowboys as they methodically stopped the Eagles and put the ball in the basket on the other side. The third quarter closed with the Cowboys up 53-33.

The final stanza was a back and forth affair, but still too much Southwest as the Cowboys finished with a 71-54 victory to advance to the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference championship game on Friday night here at East Forsyth.

The Eagles were led by Jordan Roberson with 16 points. The Cowboys had a balanced attack again. Tonight they were led by Orlando Smith with (14, 5 Rebs, 2 Asts), Keyshaun Langley with (13, 2 Asts, Reb, Stl), and Kameron Langley with (13, 6 Rebs, 4 Asts, 3 Stls).
