The Lead: Roanoke and Lynchburg combined for an ODAC and NCAA Division III record 316 points as the Hornets topped the Maroons 160-156 in double overtime Wednesday in Lynchburg.

How it Happened
The two teams shot a combined 58.1% from the field going 101-of-174 combined. RC made a school record 48 shots from the field on the night, including 17 from three-point land which ties a school record.

The 156 total points is a RC program best and the most by a losing team in NCAA Division III history. RC’s 71 first-half points is also a school record and five short of the ODAC record set by Emory & Henry in 2008.

The Maroons also set an ODAC record with 43 made free-throws. The 56 attempts from the charity stripe is fifth most all-time by RC and its 45 three-point attempts is a school record.

The two teams combined for 12 players in double-figures, eight of which scored 20 or more. Three players scored over 30 points, while LC’s Austen Arnold led all scorers with 41 points.

Cameron Smith (32 pts.), Joey Miller (31 pts.), C.J. Miles (25 pts.) and John Caldwell (22 pts.) all set career-highs in the loss.

Bobby Ford scored 24 points for LC to go along with 22 points for Alex Graves. Zack Burnett (15 pts.), Devante Young (12 pts.), A.J. Hamilton (12 pts.) and Jay Allen (11 pts.) all scored in double-figures for Lynchburg.

Lynchburg came out hot and led by 18 when Sammy Hooper nailed a three-pointer with 9:44 to play in the first-half.

Miller sparked a 26-10 RC run with a layup on the ensuing possession. A run that was capped by a Caldwell three-pointer that tied the score at 55 with 3:21 to go.

With the game tied at 64, RC scored seven of the final nine points of the half to take a 71-66 lead into the break.

In the second-half, RC was able to open up a nine point lead twice and LC was able to get an eight point lead twice only to see them all erased. With 51 seconds remaining, Miles made a pair of free-throws to send the game into overtime tied at 131.

Lynchburg led from the outset of the first overtime and was up 139-137 before a Miller bucket tied the game at 139 and sent the game into a second OT.

In the second overtime, a Seth Bradley three-pointer tied the game for the 15th and final time as it made the score 152-152 with 1:54 to play.
LC would make eight free-throws, including five from Arnold in the final 1:32 to take the win over RC.

The Maroons came into tonight’s game ranked No. 21 in the d3hoops.com poll and seventh in the NCAA DIII South Regional rankings. LC was ranked fourth in the regional rankings.

It is the second consecutive double-overtime game between the two teams as LC took a 103-101 decision last year in Salem. The Maroons still hold a 117-31 lead in the all-time series between the two programs.
