Elon Track and Field Heads to Penn State Tune-Up for Indoor Regular Season Finale

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team heads to the Penn State Tune-Up on Saturday, Feb. 20, for its final indoor meet of the regular season at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

Last Time Out
The maroon and gold last competed at the Spire Institute Division I Challenge at Geneva, Ohio, last weekend, Feb. 12-13. Elon saw four school records fall at the meet and a number of individuals each berths to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships.

Senior Sydney Griffin broke her second indoor school-record of the season as the Marietta, Ga., native clocked a time of 24.57 in the 200-meter race. She would finish 10th overall in the event featuring some of the top competitors in the country.

Tereza Novotna also earned a top-10 overall finish with her new school-record time of 16:40.52 in the 5,000-meter run. Teammate Shelby Cuddeback was the next runner for the Phoenix to cross the line with her new personal-best time of 17:05.73 – now the third fastest in school history. Cuddeback’s time also qualified her for the ECACs.

Sophomore Emily Dixon was third in the women’s pentathlon with a new personal-best mark of 3,539 points. She has also qualified for the ECACs. Nicole Karabas set a new personal-best mark in the pole vault as she cleared the bar at 11′ 0.75″ (3.37m) – the third-best indoor performance in school history.

Jen Esposito established a new school record in the 400-meter dash as the Mansfield, Mass., native clocked a 55.29 in the race. She finished seventh overall in the event. Esposito then went on to help the 4×400-meter relay team also featuring Desiree Ross, Lauren Brzozowski and Lydia Laws set a new indoor school record with their time of 3:48.44.

Carrie Abraham set a new personal-record in the long jump as the junior had a leap of 18′ 9.25 (5.72m) for a fourth-place standing. She also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships. Abraham also was sixth in the triple jump with her mark of 38′ 11″ (11.86m).

Elon and a few of its competitors will head to the ECAC Indoor Championship meet in Boston, Mass., on March 4-5.
