from WFMY News 2:

Dudley high school legend Bill Boyers was a mentor and a friend. Boyers died last week. He worked at Dudley High School for at least 40 years.

Boyers was a state champion track coach. The track at the high school is named after him. He was also an assistant football coach.

Stahle Vincent played football for Boyers in 1969 but he and his coach stayed close. Vincent said they were chatting just days before Boyers died.

“The interesting thing about his passing is that i heard from athletes I competed against from other schools who called and expressed condolences because we all lost a great one when Mr. Boyers Died,” Vincent said.

Boyers funeral is set for Saturday .

*****The track at Dudley High in Greensboro is named for William “Bill” Boyers, a hall-of-fame football player at A&T who was a teacher, coach and role model at Dudley from 1956 though 1995.*****

  1. I played football at Dudley for Coach B. from ’79-’81 and I’ll never forget him. He was a great man in many ways. The things I learned from him have followed me throughout my life. He was in his mid 50s when I was there and he was in excellent shape. He would smoke us in the weight room. He used to tell us that he would make us run “til your feet are as thin as a dime!” R.I.P. coach.

  2. I liked his coaching philosophy for track in that he expected nearly all of his sprinters to run the 400 meters.
