College Women’s Basketball Final – Thomas More 92, Guilford 40 (NCAA Division III Tournament 2nd Round)

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Sidney Moss totaled a game-high 26 points, plus nine rebounds and eight assists, in top-ranked Thomas More College’s 92-40 win over Guilford College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The victory sends the Saints (29-0) into the sectional round of the tournament against the winner of Saturday’s game between Birmingham Southern College and Maryville (Tenn.) College. Guilford ends its season with a 22-6 record.

The Saints had their 62nd consecutive victory well in hand by halftime when they had a 49-18 advantage. Moss collected 16 points, seven rebounds four assists and two steals in the opening 20 minutes. Thomas More used its size and speed to force Guilford into 12 first-half turnovers that led to 14 Saints’ points.

The second half saw more of the same as Moss stroked two of her four three-pointers on consecutive possessions on the way to 10 points in the period. Thomas More subbed out its starters for the final quarter as the game was played in a brisk hour and 21 minutes.

Thomas More’s Abby Owings added 16 points and Nikki Kieman netted 14 points and blocked four shots. The Saints hassled the Quakers into 24 turnovers, which led to 30 points. The defending national champions also held a 49-34 edge in rebounds.

Guilford’s Amy Steller scored a team-high 12 points and Anais Weatherly added 10. Weatherly grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
