College Baseball Final – Ferrum 9, Guilford 5

FERRUM, Va. – Anderson Ramos’ three-run home run keyed Ferrum College’s five-run seventh inning and helped the Panthers past Guilford College, 9-5, Wednesday evening.

The Quakers (9-6) carried a 5-4 lead into the seventh inning before Ferrum (11-6) rallied. Lucas Stevens led off the frame with a double off of Guilford starter Darin Salter, which brought reliever Nick Blackwood (2-1) into the game. Austin Winkles greeted him with a single to put runners on second and third with no outs. Ty Comer’s sacrifice fly tied the game at four and Lane Deaver’s RBI single to left put the Panthers ahead. Ramos followed with his second home run of the year, which ultimately provided the game’s final margin.

Blake Otey retired the Quakers in order in the eighth inning and Jared Talley did likewise in the ninth to end the game.

Ramos also singled and scored twice in four at-bats. Deaver, Jo Stickney and Lucas Stevers also had two hits and an RBI. Hunter Peck (1-0), one of five Panthers’ pitchers, fanned two in a scoreless seventh inning to earn the victory.

Guilford rallied from an early 3-0 deficit with a single run in the run in the third and scored three times in the fourth inning. Andrew Brann, who had two of Guilford’s six hits, smacked his first college home run, a solo shot, in the inning. Guilford took a 5-3 lead in the fifth on a Logan Jones sacrifice fly.

Coach Nick Black’s Quakers host Averett University Thursday (3/10) in a game rescheduled from February 14 and March 11.
