Jack Emerick, a 6-5 senior post player from Northern Guilford HS, has committed to Catholic University in Washington, DC. He received an academic scholarship and will play basketball for the school.

Jack was a four-year varsity player and a three-year starter for the Nighthawks. He was named All-District and participated in the Triad East-West All Star game his senior year. He was a two-time Mid-State 3-A All-Conference selection as well. This season Jack averaged 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

“Jack came to Northern four years ago, the same time that I started coaching here” commented Coach Chambers. “Jack played an integral part in our program’s success and growth and he will be sorely missed. Catholic is an excellent university where Jack will have the opportunity to grow both athletically and academically under Coach Steve Howes’ tutelage.”

Jack Emerick was an old-school post player and made defenders have to work to guard him…Jack would bang down low in the post and work for position and he used the glass like players from the past…It was to a breath of fresh air watching Jack Emerick play high school basketball….He brought back memories of the old days with Jack Sikma, Dan Issel, Zelmo Beatty, Charles Oakley, he even did some of the same things that Charles Barkley did to survive down low and thrive back in the day….Old-school all the way, but the kid could play and he really proved it doesn’t have to be pretty for the end result to be effective…Wish this kid the best and look forward to hearing more out of him once he gets off to college at Catholic University, in Washington, D.C. and I’m thinking former Page Pirate Bryson Fonville was up and in the backcourt at Catholic and having a lot of success in his role in D.C. Good luck to Jack and I hope he can keep on playing with his back, to the basket….Maybe a #4 player for Catholic…

  1. Catholic is a great school. Bryson Fonville just finished up a great career there. It is very important to find the right school. It doesn’t always have to be Division I. There is a lot of academic money and financial aid to make DII and DIII schoold very attractive. Good luck! It was fun to see a player that actually had great post moves.
