It does not take long for Minor League road trips to become monotonous. The never-ending bus rides, cheap hotels and even some of the ballparks can begin to feel the same before a team gets deep into its schedule.

Of course, there can be destinations that players circle when they look at the slate at the beginning of the season, particularly if they hail from a particular area or have friends and family in a certain city. Such was the case for Lakewood infielder Josh Tobias when he saw the BlueClaws would be headed to his hometown of Greensboro from April 21-24.

A graduate of Southeast Guilford High School, Tobias played in his hometown for the first time in five years last month. He responded to the familiar surroundings by driving in three runs with a single and double in the series opener with the Grasshoppers before adding a single, double and home run with four RBIs a night later at NewBridge Bank Park.

“I had a few good games, and all my friends and family were there,” Tobias said. “It was awesome that they got to see me play pretty well. Being back in my hometown and hitting a home run with my mom and my dad there was an incredible feeling.”
