Elon’s Shutt(Southeast Guilford HS) Garners NFCA First Team All-Regions Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kara Shutt(Southeast Guilford High School) of the Elon University softball team garnered another postseason accolade as the sophomore outfielder was tabbed to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team as released on Thursday, May 19.

This is the second NFCA All-Region honor for Shutt and the first time that the Greensboro, N.C., native has received first team laurels. She becomes the first Phoenix player to earn first team NFCA All-Region since both Tomeka Watson and Carleigh Nester were selected in 2013.

Shutt started all 51 games this season in the outfield and led the maroon and gold in a number of offensive categories including batting average (.399), slugging percentage (.601), runs scored (37), hits (69) and was tied for the team-lead in triples with four. She also claimed the program’s all-time single-season doubles record with 21 in 2016 and is currently third in the nation in doubles per contest at 0.43. Shutt also registered the longest reached base streak for Elon after safely reaching in 23 straight games. Last week, she was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team for the first time in her career.

Shutt was among 385 student-athletes from 157 programs to have received 2016 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second team and selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA Division I All-American squads.

The 2016 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 1, via NFCA.org.
