Fundamental Out:Tim Duncan(Wake Forest University/San Antonio Spurs) announces retirement

FUNDAMENTAL OUT: DUNCAN ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT…

A purveyor of dad jeans and bank shots. Tom Emanski with fundamentals. The greatest power forward ever to walk planet earth. Tim Duncan didn’t want 50 shots in his last game and a farewell tour — instead the 19-year veteran, five-time champion, two-time MVP, and three-time Finals MVP opted to fade into oblivion as quickly as he rose to prominence after signing with the Spurs out of Wake Forest. Duncan, who was a competitive swimmer as an adolescent before Hurricane Hugo destroyed the local pool on his home island of St. Croix, could have been the No. 1 overall pick as a freshman, but played all four years at Wake because college was “fun.” David Robinson got hurt during Duncan’s senior season, the Spurs (and their new coach Gregg Popovich) ended up with the top pick in the ’97 draft, and the rest is history. TD leaves the NBA the same way he entered: quietly and mysteriously. It’ll be weird watching basketball without Kobe or Duncan next season, but they’ll be together again at the 2021 Hall of Fame ceremony. Mamba will parachute in from a helicopter, Big Fundamental will snake his way out of a Volvo, and all will be right again. Congrats on a great career, Tim…
