GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest University alumni Webb Simpson and Bill Haas as well as Wake Forest men’s golf coach Jerry Haas will play the 2016 Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 77th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 15-21, 2016 at Sedgefield Country Club.

Simpson, who captured his first-career PGA TOUR victory at the Wyndham Championship in 2011, finished tied for sixth last year and tied for fifth the year before. The 2012 U.S. Open champion hasn’t won this season, but he finished tied for third at the Dean and Deluca Invitational in May and sixth at the Quicken Loans National in June. The Wake Forest alumnus will be making his eighth-consecutive Wyndham Championship appearance; he is currently 78th in FedExCup points and 68th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Haas finished tied for sixth at last year’s Wyndham Championship and tied for second the year before. The 2011 FedExCup champion hasn’t won this season, but he has played well of late finishing tied for ninth at last weekend’s Open Championship, tied for 11th at the Memorial Tournament and tied third at the Quicken Loans National in June. Haas made his first PGA TOUR start at the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event in 2002 when he was still in school at Wake Forest. Since then, he has played the Wyndham in each of the last 10 years. He is 24th in the current FedExCup point standings and 32nd in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Haas’ uncle, Jerry, the Wake Forest University men’s golf coach, will play the Wyndham this year as the 2015 Carolinas PGA Section player of the year. It will be his fifth appearance in the tournament.
