Forest City, N.C. – The Forest City Owls (22-19) continue to roll and pulled away from the High Point-Thomasville HiToms (23-18) 10-4 to win their fifth straight contest.

Lately, the Owls jumped ahead early and Saturday night was no different when Mason Fox belted a three run homer to left field off of the HiToms starting pitcher Taylor Sugg (3-1).

Slowly but surely the HiToms chipped away and of course David Fry drove in another run on a sacrifice fly to get the HiToms on the board. That is sac-fly number six on the season for Fry.

With his college teammate Connor Dailey (1-2) pitching, David Newcomer delivered his first home run of the season to deep left to draw the HiToms closer trailing 3-2 in the top of the fifth.

Forest City played small ball on a safety squeeze dropped down by Seth Hoagland to plate another run in the bottom of the fifth.

A big inning for the Owls came in the bottom of the sixth aided by two errors from Fry at the shortstop position. Sugg was pulled with one out and after the bases became loaded Steven Bower hit Nick Tierno making it 5-2 Forest City. Austin Dennis who drove in two runs last night did so again with one swing of the bat, 2 RBI single to left field.

The HiToms gained a run back on a RBI hustle double hit to right center by Hunter Slater then Kael Jones came in to pitch and Tierno drew a walk with the bases loaded to tack on an Owls insurance run. After seven innings, the Owls led 8-3.

Newcomer had himself a ballgame picking up an RBI single in the top of the eighth to keep the HiToms spirits up.

Ultimately, the Owls were too much and tacked on a couple more in the bottom of the eighth to claim the game 10-4.

The HiToms having dropped six of the last seven games return to Finch Field on Sunday, July 24 at 5 p.m. against Lexington County.
