Forest City, N.C.– The High Point-Thomasville HiToms (27-22) couldn’t overcome six errors as the Forest City Owls (27-22) outhit the HiToms 11-5 en route to a 4-2 decision at McNair Field on Monday night.

After Danny Sullivan picked up the first hit of the game he made his way to third and was brought around on a snap throw to third by the Forest City catcher Nick Tierno that rolled into left field.

Next inning in the bottom of the third, Milton Rivera sent an RBI single up the middle after Austin Dennis moved into scoring position on a throwing error by David Fry.

The momentum shifted in the bottom of the fifth in a tie 1-1 game on a two-run single knocked up the gut from AJ Bumpass. Two errors aided the Owls in the fifth as Steven Bower (2-4) couldn’t work out of the jam.

Knowing they had to respond quickly, Fry made up for the defensive miscues with a line drive RBI single into centerfield but he was caught leaning off of first base on the turn to end the top of the sixth.

Bower was pulled with runners at the corners and two outs in the bottom of the seventh in favor of Reid Clements who didn’t have to do much. The Owls attempted a double steal and after Almond tossed it up the middle the throw came back home for the out to end the inning.

Ethan Carpenter (6-3) was sensational on the bump going eight innings only allowing four hits, walking one batter and striking out four HiToms.

Despite a season high six errors, the HiToms brought the game tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth but Chaz Miller earned his eleventh save of the season when Hunter Slater flew out to deep center.

Following the 4-2 loss, the HiToms stay on the road swing with a trip to Asheboro tomorrow, August 2 at 7:05 p.m. against the Copperheads.
