U.S. Open Champions Graeme McDowell, Jim Furyk Join Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former U.S. Open winners Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk will play the 2016 Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 77th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 15-21, 2016 at Sedgefield Country Club.

These players join former Wyndham winners Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson, Wake Forest alumnus Bill Haas, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama and Spanish stars Rafael Cabrera Bello and Jon Rahm in the field.
McDowell won the U.S. Open in 2010; he has three PGA TOUR victories and eight international wins. He won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, recorded top-five finishes at the RSM Classic and the Honda Classic and finished tied for ninth at the Players Championship earlier this season. He represented the European Team in the Ryder Cup four times. A native of Portrush, Northern Ireland, McDowell is 31st in the current FedExCup point standings and 75th in the Official World Golf Rankings. The University of Alabama-Birmingham alumnus will make his first Wyndham Championship start this year.

Furyk has 17 PGA TOUR victories to his credit including the 2003 U.S. Open. Furyk will make his 13th Wyndham Championship appearance but his first since 2011 when he finished tied for ninth; he has four top-10 finishes here. Furyk suffered a wrist injury in late 2015 and returned to the PGA TOUR at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte. In his fifth start of the season, he finished tied for second at the U.S. Open for his best finish in 10 starts this year. Furyk has represented the United States in the Ryder Cup nine times and the Presidents Cup seven times. Despite only 10 starts this season, the Pennsylvania native is 24th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 118th in the FedExCup point standings.
