Elon Men’s Soccer Receiving Votes in NSCAA Preseason Poll

ELON, N.C. – As the start of the 2016 regular season sits just 25 days away, the Elon University men’s soccer team received votes in the 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Poll as released on Tuesday, Aug. 2, by the association.

The Phoenix is one of two teams in the Colonial Athletic Association receiving votes in the poll, along with Hofstra. Overall including exhibition matches, Elon faces four teams on its upcoming schedule that are either in the top 25 or receiving votes in the preseason poll.

Georgetown (No. 10) and Charlotte (No. 22), both preseason home exhibition matches for the Phoenix, are ranked in the top 25. Elon will also square off at Radford Sept. 17 with the Highlanders receiving votes in the preseason rankings. The Phoenix will then face Hofstra on Oct. 29, in its home regular-season finale.

Elon is coming off its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last five seasons including its first win in the national tournament a year ago with a 3-0 victory over Winthrop. The Phoenix returns 14 letterwinners from its squad that won 14 games in 2015 including CAA All-Rookie Team performers in striker Jaiden Fortune and keeper Matthew Jegier.

The Phoenix opens the 2016 campaign at the John Rennie/Nike Invitational for the fourth straight year with a matchup versus UNC Asheville on Friday, Aug. 26, in Durham, N.C. Kickoff begins at 5 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium at Duke University.
