GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former Wyndham Championship winners Ryan Moore, Carl Pettersson, Camilo Villegas and Arjun Atwal will play the 2016 Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 77th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 15-21, 2016 at Sedgefield Country Club. Three-time champion Davis Love III, who won last year’s tournament, will also attend.

These players join previously announced former Wyndham winners Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson, Wake Forest alumnus Bill Haas, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, U.S. Open champions Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Kevin Na, William McGirt, 2003 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner, Scott Piercy, Harris English as well as Spanish stars Rafael Cabrera Bello and Jon Rahm in the field.

Love, now a three-time winner of the Sam Snead Cup, will not defend last year’s championship due to recent hip surgery. The 2016 Ryder Cup Captain will spend part of tournament week at the Wyndham Championship visiting players and tournament sponsors. The Wyndham Championship’s all-time money leader with $2,513,256 in tournament earnings has 21 PGA TOUR victories including the 1997 PGA Championship. He has represented the United States in the Ryder Cup eight times – six as a player and now twice as the captain.

Moore won the Wyndham in 2009 following a thrilling three-way playoff with Jason Bohn and Kevin Stadler; it was his first PGA TOUR victory after a phenomenal amateur career. Now a four-time PGA TOUR winner, his best finishes this year are third at the Valspar Championship, tied for fifth at the World Golf Championships Dell Match Play and 10th at the Northern Trust Open, the Frys.com Open and the CIMB Classic, a tournament he won in 2014 and ’15. Moore will make his ninth Wyndham Championship appearance; he is 68th in the current FedExCup point standings and 61st in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Pettersson, second on the tournament’s all-time money-leaders list with $1,929,419 in Wyndham winnings, won the Wyndham in 2008, the first event after the tournament’s return to Sedgefield Country Club, and in the process, reset most of the tournament scoring records. The NC State University alumnus and former Greensboro resident set marks for low 18 holes (61), low second round (61), low 36-hole total (125), low 54-hole total (191) and low 72-hole total (259, -21). The Grimsley High School alumnus will make his 14th consecutive Wyndham Championship appearance this year; in addition to his 2008 victory, he recorded top-five finishes in 2007, ’11 and ’12; he finished tied for sixth last year.

Villegas took a one-stroke victory over Bill Hass and Sweden’s Freddie Jacobson in the 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship in 2014. It was his fourth-career PGA TOUR victory and his seventh overall. Villegas will make his seventh Wyndham Championship appearance this year including each of the last six tournaments.

Atwal, the 2010 Wyndham champion, advanced into the tournament as a Monday qualifier and promptly claimed the Sam Snead Cup to become the first native of India to win on the PGA TOUR. His Wyndham win remains his only PGA TOUR triumph, but he is a nine-time international winner. With limited PGA TOUR status, he has made two cuts in his four PGA TOUR events this season. Atwal is making his 10th appearance at the Wyndham; in addition to his 2010 win, he finished sixth in 2004.
