Multiple Former Major Winners, including Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh and Angel Cabrera, Join Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former Major Championship winners Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh, Angel Cabrera, Lucas Glover, Justin Leonard, David Toms and Stewart Cink will all play the 2016 Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 77th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 15-21, 2016 at Sedgefield Country Club.

These players join former Wyndham winner Brandt Snedeker, Wake Forest alumnus Bill Haas, U.S. Open champions Webb Simpson, Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk, 2003 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Kevin Kisner, Kevin Na, William McGirt, former Wyndham winners Ryan Moore, Carl Pettersson, Camilo Villegas and Arjun Atwal, Scott Piercy, Harris English as well as Spanish stars Rafael Cabrera Bello and Jon Rahm in the field.

Goosen won the U.S. Open Championship in 2001 and ’04; he will make his fourth appearance at the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event where he finished 17th in 2011 – his best finish here. He finished tied for 11th at the Valspar Championship, tied for 12th at the Players Championship and the FedEx St. Jude’s Classic and tied for 14th at the Wells Fargo Championship earlier this season. A native of South Africa, Goosen is a seven-time PGA TOUR winner with 24 international victories to his credit. He is 134th in the current FedExCup point standings and 133rd in the Official World Golf Rankings.

A member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Singh has 34 PGA TOUR victories including the 1998 PGA Championship, the 2000 Masters tournament and the 2004 PGA Championship. He also has 22 international wins to his credit. A former No. 1 player in the world who now also plays some PGA TOUR Champions events, he finished second at the Quicken Loans National and tied for sixth at the Honda Classic for his best finishes of the season. Singh is making his 11th Wyndham Championship appearance; he finished tied for fourth in 2011, his best finish here. He is currently 84th in the FedExCup point standings and 129th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Cabrera is a two-time major championship winner from Cordoba, Argentina; he won the U.S. Open in 2007 and the Masters in 2009. Cabrera’s most recent PGA TOUR win was the 2014 Greenbrier Classic. He has 39 international wins and has competed for the international team in three President’s Cup Matches and nine World Cup Matches. He is making his third Wyndham Championship appearance; he finished tied for tied for 22nd in 2012 for his best finish here. He is known internationally as El Pato, “The Duck.”

Glover, the 2009 U.S. Open champion, will make his 13th consecutive Wyndham Championship appearance. The Clemson University alumnus finished seventh in 2010 and tied for sixth in 2006 for his best two finishes here; he finished tied for 18th last year. The most recent of Glover’s three PGA TOUR wins was the 2011 Wells Fargo Championship. He is 91st in the current FedExCup point standings.

Although he won the 1997 Open Championship, Leonard is best remembered for sinking the victory-clinching putt in the 1999 United States Ryder Cup win at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. It was the largest final-day, come-from-behind victory in Ryder Cup history as the Americans came back from a four-point deficit to take the cup. Leonard is making his eighth Wyndham appearance; he finished tied for third in 2010 for his best Wyndham result and tied for 14th last year. The 12-time PGA TOUR winner has played on five Presidents Cup teams and three Ryder Cup teams. He is the 1992 U.S. Amateur champion.

2010 Wyndham Championship runner up David Toms won the PGA Championship in 2001. Toms will make his 17th Wyndham Championship appearance and his ninth-consecutive. His runner-up finish in 2010 is his best Wyndham result. Toms finished tied for second at the Sanderson Farms Open earlier this season for his best finish of the season; he also finished tied for 11th at the Barbasol Championship and tied for 14th at the RBC Heritage.

Cink, the 2009 Open Championship winner, is making his seventh Wyndham Championship start. The Georgia Tech alumnus has six PGA TOUR wins, two international victories and three Web.com Tour wins. Earlier this season, he took a leave of absence from the PGA TOUR to support his wife, Lisa’s battle with breast cancer. Without a full season of tournaments he is 160th in the current FedExCup point standings.
