Right now might a good time for other teams competing in the Colt World Series to familiarize themselves with the young men from Tijuana, Mexico.

Tijuana, which went undefeated during its sprint to the Mexico Zone qualifying tournament title, remained unbeaten Friday with a workmanlike 7-5 victory over the Asia Pacific Zone winners from Seoul, South Korea, at Loeb Stadium.

Tijuana will now face North Carolina’s Greensboro White on Saturday night in the winner’s bracket of the 10-team tournament.

“It was a tough game, but out players managed to fight through it and get the win,” Tijuana manager Jesus Castro said through interpreter Sergio Vizcaino. “(Seoul) didn’t get their heads down and they fought us to the last inning. We expected a close score.”*****

LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Brace yourself: there’s no team from Puerto Rico in this year’s Colt World Series.

It’s the first time since 1976 that Puerto Rico hasn’t made the annual trek to Loeb Stadium. You won’t see players from Guaynabo, Cagus, Levittown, San Juan, Toa Baja or Rio Piedras competing.

We know Puerto Rico isn’t here but what’s the reason?

Puerto Rico came through the loser’s bracket to win the Caribbean Zone championship, defeating Aruba twice in early July. According to Colt World Series president Tim Clark, officials from Puerto Rico notified Pony Baseball it didn’t have the money to travel to Lafayette about three weeks later.

“When they said they didn’t have the funds to come here, our obligation at that point was to go to the second-place team and invite them,” Clark said.

Aruba was invited and accepted.
$$$$$About 3 weeks later after Puerto Rico declined the trip, they came up with the money, but by then it was too late, Aruba was already in…$$$$$
