Update From Southern Durham and head football coach Darius Robinson

How has summer camp concluded for your team?

The Southern Durham Spartans 2016 football summer camp ended with a lot of energy and anticipation for our 1st regular season game on August 19th.

What are some things that we can expect to see from your team this year?

We will show a lot of discipline and experience in all three phases (offense, defense, & special teams). Our team goal is to not beat ourselves by making unnecessary mistakes. We will not defeat ourselves.

Following up from last season, what has changed and how do you plan to fill the void of the senior leadership that graduated?

We have had some key coaching changes on our staff. We have had three coaches move up to the collegiate level of coaching. I’ve hired three new experienced coaches and we will not lose a beat. They have a lot of coaching experience on the college and high school level. The senior leadership is the easy part. We were fortunate to have a lot of juniors returning that were starters last year. They were challenged this summer to step up and leave their legacy in the Spartan football program. They have responded well and taken on the role of leadership by showing the young people coming into the program how to be professional. The 2017 is a very competitive and hungry group of seniors this year.

Who are some stars on your team that we should keep an eye out for?

These are the top returning key players: Jalen Greene QB, Montrel Cooper DB/WR, Tyriq Burrus DE/TE, Marcus McDonald WR, Ezekiel Jennette DE, Andre Purvis Jr. MLB/DE, Bobby Fuller OL/DL, Brian Williams OL, Jaiden Vinson-Horne OL, Ryan McLamb CB/WR, Robert Jackson CB/KR, Joey Strong Jr. RB, Taronald Beauford RB/SS, & Santonio Marshall Jr. Slot.
