HiToms ready for Petitt Cup Playoffs
High Point-Thomasville, N.C.– The High Point Thomasville HiToms played the waiting game on Monday night and ultimately clinched a spot in the Coastal Plain League playoffs when Forest City officially won the West Division second half. The number three seed HiToms meet the very same Owls ball club in the first round of the Petitt Cup Playoffs on Wednesday, August 10 at 7:05 p.m. in Forest City at McNair Field.
“I’m proud of the hard work and investment that our HiTom players, coaches, staff, host parents and fans put into making the regular season a success,” HiToms head coach Brian Rountree said. “Now we have an opportunity to keep playing and bring a Petitt Cup back to High Point-Thomasville.”
The HiToms and the second seeded Owls are at the bottom half of the West bracket with the number four Asheboro Copperheads visiting the Savannah Bananas who locked up the top spot in the West.
Over on the East Division side of the Petitt Cup Playoff bracket has the HiToms sister organization the Wilson Tobs also as a three seed taking on the number two Wilmington Sharks in the Port City. The number one overall seeded Peninsula Pilots host the fourth seeded Morehead City Marlins in the first round.
All first round playoff games begin on Wednesday. The first round and divisional championships are single elimination this year. The divisional championships take place on Friday, August 12 with the two winners facing off in the Petitt Cup Championship, which is a three game series to crown a CPL champion.
After a one year hiatus, the HiToms return to the Petitt Cup Playoffs and have an overall record over the five-hundred mark for the first time since 2011 when High Point-Thomasville won the West division. The HiToms have three Petitt Cup titles under their belt with three straight championship seasons in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
