Former World No. 1 Luke Donald, Irish Star Shane Lowry Join Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Englishman Luke Donald and Irish star Shane Lowry will play the 2016 Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 77th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 15-21, 2016 at Sedgefield Country Club.

These players join 2016 PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker, former Wyndham winner Brandt Snedeker, World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, Wake Forest alumnus Bill Haas, U.S. Open champions Webb Simpson, Retief Goosen, Graeme McDowell, Jim Furyk, Angel Cabrera and Lucas Glover, PGA Championship winners Jason Dufner and David Toms, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Kevin Kisner, Kevin Na, William McGirt, World Golf Hall of Famer Vijay Singh, Open Championship winners Justin Leonard and Stewart Cink, former Wyndham winners Ryan Moore, Carl Pettersson, Camilo Villegas and Arjun Atwal, Scott Piercy, Harris English as well as Spanish stars Rafael Cabrera Bello and Jon Rahm in the field.

Donald, a former No. 1 player in the world, is a five-time PGA TOUR winner with eight international wins also to his credit; he finished tied for second at the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head, S.C., for his best finish this season. In 2011, Donald became the first player from England to be named PGA TOUR Player of the Year since the award’s inception in 1990. He finished that season ranked No. 1 on the money list for both the PGA TOUR and the European Tour. He has represented the European Team in Ryder Cup competition four times. He will make his fifth Wyndham Championship appearance; he finished tied for 26th here last year. Donald is 95th in the current FedExCup point standings and 88th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Lowry led the U.S. Open in June and finished tied for second. In addition to his impressive U.S. Open, he finished tied for sixth at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February. He won the 2015 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational and has two international wins to his credit. He is making his first Wyndham Championship appearance and hopes to make the European Ryder Cup Team. A native and resident of Clara, County Offaly, Ireland, Lowry is 86th in the current FedExCup point standings, 32nd in the Official World Golf Rankings, 14th in the European team Ryder Cup point standings and 17th in the European Tour Race to Dubai standings.
