GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the USA South Athletic Conference Eastern Division, the conference announced Wednesday.

“The preseason poll is like predicting the weather,” Head Coach Gus Mota said. “The polls normally reflect more off of last season, not knowing what is to come. Last year we were picked in a similar standing, and we proved it wrong.

“With the help of the incoming class, and the depth they provide, we look forward to doing it once again as we ascend to the top.”

The Pride welcome back 16 players from one season ago, including senior captains Lauren Greeson, Samara Alba, and Meghan Cole. Joining this year’s team is a strong group of newcomers including five forwards, four midfielders, four defenders, and two goalkeepers.

Meredith College, which won the divisional race last season, and Methodist University were picked as the favorites after receiving four first-place votes each.

The Pride women will open their 2016 season Sept. 1 at home against Hollins University. For more information on the Greensboro College women’s soccer team, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
