GREENSBORO, N.C. – Catherine Head and Elayna Meachum have been added to the Greensboro College volleyball staff, Head Coach Kaci Pike announced Wednesday.

“We are adding two young and talented coaches to our staff this season,” Pike said. “They both have shown a passion and enthusiasm for the game and for positively impacting the experience of college athletes.

“I am really excited to have these two on the sidelines with us, instilling their work ethic and recent experiences.”

Head comes to Greensboro College following her graduation earlier this year from Elon University. She has served as a coach for the Piedmont Volleyball club.

During her playing career for the Phoenix, Head was a big piece of the defense as a well-balanced middle as she appeared in 93 matches and made 68 starts. She recorded 263 career blocks.

Before her collegiate career, Head attended Glenn High School, where she led her team to the most victories in program history and a Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference Co-Championship in 2010. Head was also named the 2010 Capital Hill Classic MVP, and best blocker, as a member of the Piedmont Triad Volleyball Club.

“Catherine had a productive college career at Elon University,” Pike said. “She demonstrates knowledge for blocking and serving strategy, which will complement our areas of growth.”

Meachum joins the Pride from Limestone College, where she was a four-year member of the Saints volleyball team.

She appeared in 60 matches and 159 sets, recording 160 digs in 2013 and 975 assists in her career.

Prior to attending Limestone, Meachum was a four-year starter at Walter Hines Page High School, in Greensboro, N.C, and was a member of the Piedmont Triad volleyball club.

Pike, Head, Meachum, and the Pride volleyball team will open their 2016 season on Sat., Sept. 2, at the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic. For more information on Greensboro College volleyball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.

What they are saying about Coach Head

“I first met Catherine when she help coach my daughter’s club volleyball team. She was full of energy and always positive. As Catherine took over the team midway through the season, I watched her mature into a full-blown adult, able to deal with all of the drama. I have kept in touch with Catherine over the years, and our families have become friends. I have watched her become a well-rounded woman who is a role model for my daughter, like she will be for everyone within the Greensboro College volleyball family.” – Patty DeVries

“I have known Catherine for eight years. She has always been a leader and is always a team player. The one word I can say about Catherine is “perseverance.” She has the ability with her personality to take any situation and make it better over time. Young females sense Cat always has their back under challenging times, and she is always on point with communication skills and follows through. She will do a wonderful job assisting the Greensboro College volleyball student-athletes.” – Kim Mansfield, executive director, Piedmont Triad Volleyball Club

What they are saying about Coach Meachum

“Elayna was a very hard-working player. She was a student of the game, which made her very easy to work with and highly successful in the very demanding setter position. It is great to know Elayna’s bringing those same traits to working with athletes. She has a very patient personality and a passion for teaching the game. Elayna is a wonderful addition to Greensboro College.” – Blaine Tendler, N.C. A&T assistant coach and former club volleyball coach

“Elayna completed her Page High School volleyball career as one of the most decorated players in school history. A three-time All-Metro 4A All Conference recipient, Elayna set the Pirates to the NCHSAA 4A state playoffs each year she competed and rounded out her senior campaign as the team’s co-captain. I have no doubt that Elayna is eager to begin her collegiate coaching career, share her knowledge and insights, and work hard to better the team every day in the gym. Having coached each of Greensboro College’s coaching staff at various points in their volleyball careers, I am confident that Coaches Pike, Head, and Meachum will bring about great results for the Pride volleyball team.” – Trevor Hewitt, Page High School head volleyball coach and former club volleyball coach

“Elayna is one of the hardest-working, most positive and dedicated people I know. Her love for the sport and her desire to help and teach athletes will be an undeniable asset to the Greensboro College volleyball program” – Laurie James, former athletic trainer at Limestone College
