Northeast Guilford Rams:Breakout Season(Kris Walser from GreensboroSports Radio breaks it down)

Rams Breakout Season

The Rams have struggled since trying to replace the legendary Coach Pursley in 2013. With the hiring of Coach Jason Lippard for the 2015 season, the Rams seem poised for a breakout year in 2016. Coach Lippard has installed his own version of the spread offense and gone are the days of the Rams running the football 100+ times a game.

The Rams are lead by seniors Tobias Floyd, Noah Priester and Jeremiah Praylor. The junior class at Northeast is one of the strongest in the state. Quarterback Gerald “G” Simpson returns as a second-year starter. Simpson has made large gains in the weight room and is developing into a very good ‘Field General’. With the addition of juniors from a very successful JV squad last year (7-3), WR Desmond Overton, RB Kobe Dillard, and the all-purpose Tarique Ridges, are going to surely lift an offense that struggled at times last season.

The Defense has added a new Coordinator, Coach White, and he has an abundance of tools to work with. Defensive ends Brevin Allen and Amin Elamrani, both Juniors, book-end this young and athletic defensive line. Allen has gotten a lot of attention this summer from D1 scouts and I’m sure Elamrani will be on their radar before the end of the season. The tackle positions will be filled by two talented sophomores, Quan’dre Clagon and Ramone Darby, will bring power and athleticism to both tackle positions.

The road will not be easy for the Rams, starting with three 4-A opponents and then into one of the toughest 3-A Conferences in the state, the Mid-State 3A…. With all of that, expect to hear some noise from McRamsville this season.

You can listen to the Northeast Guilford Rams games live on greensborosportsradio.com or on replay until each Friday afternoon before the next game.

  1. This is Northeast Guilford Rams Championship Year 2016!!! Kris thanks for breaking it down and for your positive coverage and writing of the team….My son’s name is spelled incorrectly, the correct spelling is Ramone Darby. Thanks so much!

  2. Hey Kris, I used to coach at NEGHS and I know that yo uare taking poetic license when you say that NEGHS ran the ball 100 times per game, but let me tell you this…NOT MANY TEAMS COULD STOP IT. Lets see how many games the spread will win vs our triple option.
