College Women’s Soccer News – Guilford Tabbed Eighth in Preseason ODAC Poll

FOREST, Va. – Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women’s soccer coaches picked Guilford College eighth in their annual preseason poll released Thursday. The Quakers earned 59 points in the 13-team
ranking. Six-time ODAC champion Lynchburg College sits in a familiar position atop the poll with 142 points and 11 first-place votes. Washington and Lee University tallied a first-place vote and 132 points, while Shenandoah University rounds out the top three with 108 marks.

Guilford head coach Michael Shenigo looks to build on a 7-10-1 (4-7 ODAC) season a year ago, the program’s best win total since 2011. In three seasons Shenigo has moved the program from one victory in 2013, to a team that looks to contend for an ODAC playoff berth this fall. Shenigo’s squad returns 11 members of last year’s team, including sophomore Juliana Evans-Anfrom, who started 17 of 18 games a year ago. In her rookie campaign, she finished third on the team with 12 total points as she chipped in four goals and assisted on four others. The Quakers return all three goalkeepers who played last year, including sophomore Maggie Albert, who made 11 starts in 14 appearances as Guilford’s primary keeper.

The Quakers begin the 2016 campaign on September 1 against North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Their first home contest is September 9 versus Salem College at 4:00 p.m. on Appenzeller Field at the Armfield Athletic Center.
