Elon Women’s Tennis Adds Alex Koniaev for 2016-17

ELON, N.C. – Elon University head women’s tennis coach Elizabeth Anderson announced the addition of Alex Koniaev (Glen Head, N.Y.) for the upcoming 2016-17 season on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

“We are looking forward to Alex joining our team,” said Anderson. “She is going to make a tremendous impact here, both in the classroom and on the court. Alex is very hardworking, talented and competes very well. We are excited about working with her.”

Koniaev is a four-star recruit according to the Tennis Recruiting Network and achieved her career-high national ranking of 73 this year. She was also the fourth ranked player in the state of New York.

While competing at Locust Valley High School, Koniaev was a two-time team MVP and helped her squad to conference championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014. In addition, she placed fourth in NYSPHSC, was named All-State and All-County and was a two-time winner of the Special Achievement Award.

The Phoenix opens the 2016 fall season with the Elon Fall Invitational, Sept. 9-11, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
