Tendler Earns 200th Win as Elon Volleyball Sweeps A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Elon head volleyball coach Mary Tendler earned her 200th career victory as the Elon volleyball team swept North Carolina A&T, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-23), tonight, Aug. 30, in Moore Gymnasium.

The Phoenix (2-1) was led by 12 kills from Kam Terrry, while Michelle Klein tallied eight kills off 13 attempts with no errors to hit .615. Kayla Agae recorded four aces to go along with seven kills and nine digs. Rox Wood posted a match-high 26 assists, while Maddie Jaudon also finished with nine digs.

The Aggies (1-4) saw nine kills from Samara Brown followed by seven kills from Alyssa Pitt. Liz Martino recorded 19 assists for the Aggies with Keniah Rivera tallied seven digs.

How it Happened
With the Aggies holding a 4-1 lead in the first set, Elon used a kill and ace by Agae to take the edge, 7-5. Kills by Terry and Ebony Scott put the Phoenix up by four, 12-8, forcing an A&T timeout, before back-to-back aces by Terry made it a six-point advantage, 14-8. After the second Aggie timeout, the maroon and gold closed out the set on a 6-1 run with the help of three kills by Terry for the a 25-14 win.

Elon led by five in the early part of the second set before A&T managed to close the gap to one, 12-11. A kill by Klein sparked a 13-1 run that was capped by a Wood kill to claim the set, 25-12, and take a 2-0 match lead.

A&T jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the third set before kills by Terry and Klein and an ace by Agae evened the score at eight-all. The Phoenix pulled in front, 11-10, as kills by Terry and Agae and a block by Elizabeth Coil and Scott made it a 16-13 advantage for the maroon and gold. A&T closed the gap to one, 24-23, before a kill by Scott closed out the set and the match for the Phoenix.

Notes
This marked the 38th all-time meeting between Elon and A&T…The Phoenix has claimed the win in the last 10 matches…The last seven matches have been a sweep for the maroon and gold…Elon holds the all-time series advantage, 29-9.
