GREENSBORO, NC – The Shorebirds kept the bats rolling on Wednesday night with a pair of wins in Greensboro, tying their longest win streak of the season with seven straight victories. The ‘Birds took game one 5-3 before decisively topping the Grasshoppers 5-0 in game two at NewBridge Bank Park.

Delmarva (70-64, 28-37) got on the board early in game one thanks to Randolph Gassaway’s solo blast to left field. Unfortunately, Gassaway had to leave the game in the fourth inning after making a nice catch while crashing into the left field fence. He appeared to have injured his shoulder while making the grab.

Drew Turbin added an RBI single in the second inning as well to give the Shorebirds a 2-0 lead. But Greensboro (65-70, 27-38) tied the game on the first of J.J. Gould’s home runs of the night. But Ricardo Andujar broke the tie with a two-out RBI double to right-center that scored Cedric Mullins all the way from first base.

The Shorebirds got two more runs across in the top of the sixth on Ademar Rifaela’s RBI double and Ronarsy Ledesma’s RBI single. Delmarva’s 5-2 lead was cut to 5-3 on Gould’s second homer of the night, but the Shorebirds would hang on to win by that margin. Brian Gonzalez (10-8) became the second Shorebird to win 10 games (Cristian Alvarado did it on Tuesday night).

Game two belonged largely to Delmarva’s offense, despite Dariel Delgado (2-0) and Christian Turnipseed combining to allow only two base hits. Alex Murphy, Gerrion Grim and Ademar Rifaela all left the yard and drove home all five runs as the Shorebirds shut out Greensboro.

With the wins, Delmarva has ripped off seven wins in a row for the second time this season and first time since mid-June during the first half playoff push. Greensboro has lost nine games in a row, having not won a game since they beat Hickory on Monday, August 22nd.

The Shorebirds play their final road game of the season in Greensboro on Thursday night. First pitch is slated for 7:00 pm. Brendan Gulick will have the broadcast beginning with Shorebirds On-Deck at 6:45 pm on Fox Sports AM 960 and online at theshorebirds.com.
