GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s soccer team stormed past Hollins University Thursday afternoon, 12-0.

Greensboro (1-0) struck first, just eight minutes into the game, when Gabbriele Edinger took a feed from Madison Karch and beat the Hollins keeper in the upper-left corner.

Hollins was able to keep the Pride off the board for the next 17 minutes, until Samara Alba and Anna Rae Porcelli found the net to take a 3-0 halftime lead.

“Our youth really showed in the first half as we struggled to possess the ball,” Head Coach Gus Mota said.

The Pride used the halftime motivation to double its margin midway through the second half. Mercedes Fisher, who finished with three goals and two assists, struck for two goals, while Lauren Greeson recorded her first goal of the season.

Over the final 20 minutes, Greensboro got goals from Briana Huber, Fisher, and Edinger, while Porcelli tallied two goals to secure the 12-goal victory.

“The team played a really good second half after our conversation in the locker room,” Mota said. “I am proud of the way the team responded, but we have a long way to go as there is a lot of areas that we need to improve on.”

Greensboro did not allow Hollins to attempt a shot in the contest, while firing away 36 shots of their own. Despite not recording a save, Brittany Morrison (1-0) picked up the win in goal for Greensboro. Ly’Shanette Major, Rachel Swaim, and Taylor Horner also saw action between the pipes. Hannah Armstrong took the loss for Hollins despite recording 11 saves.

Fisher and Porcelli paced Greensboro with three goals each, while Edinger posted two scores.

The Pride women’s soccer team will return to Pride Field at 4 p.m. Sunday when they host the Vixens of Sweet Briar College. For more information on Greensboro College women’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
