LEXINGTON, Va. — The Greensboro College men’s golf team won the 2016 Transylvania Fall Invitational Sunday after firing a 2-under par (286) round.

The Pride finsihed nine strokes ahead of Wittenberg University, while Gustavus Adolphus finished 23 strokes back in third place.

Grant Powell, who was leading after the first two rounds, received medalist honors after finishing the 54-hole event at 3-under par. Powell entered Sunday’s round tied for the individual lead and shot a 1-under par 71.

Levi Grogan scored a team-best 3-under par (69) to move up the leader board to finish in second place.

Luke Grogan finished in a third place tie (+2), while Ryan Fitzgerald finished the event in an eighth place tie at 5-over par.

Sean O’Connell (t-34, +12) also competed in the event.

“You cannot ask for a better start to the season then getting a team win,” Head Coach Dirk Fennie said. “To have your players to sweep the top three positions is amazing.

“Grant picked up right where he left off on the junior tour in picking up his first collegiate win. Coming into the season, we had high hopes for Grant and he did not disappoint in his first collegiate tournament. All the guys are very excited with our team showing, and they are looking forward to the NCAA Fall Preview.”

The Pride men’s golf team will return to the course Sept. 18 when they travel to the 2016 NCAA Division III Fall Preview in Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla. For more information on Greensboro College men’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
