College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Men Place Fifth at Transylvania Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Zach Evens and Josh Hill both shot 221 over three rounds to help Guilford College shoot 896 and place fifth at the Transylvania Fall Invitational Sunday. Greensboro College (868) had the top-three individuals and won the 16-team tournament by nine shots over second-place Wittenberg University (877). Gustavus Adolphus (891) and the host Pioneers (895) rounded out the top four finishers.

Greensboro’s Grant Powell took medalist honors and shot three-under 213 for a three-stroke win over teammate Levi Grogan. Grogan’s brother, Luke, finished third with a 218.

The Quakers completed the three-round season-opening event Sunday by shooting their best round, a four-over-par 292. Hill tamed the par-72, 7,013-yard University Club of Kentucky – Big Blue Course by carding a one-under 71, Guilford’s low round for the tournament. Evens shot an even-par 72 Sunday and joined Hill in eighth place among 90 contestants at 221 (+5) over 54 holes.

Guilford’s Kendall Dunn (Greensboro, N.C./Vandalia Christian (UNC Pembroke)) saved his best for the final round with a two-over 74 that moved him into a tie for 34th place individually (228, +12). He shared the spot with teammate Justin Perdue, who shot 72-79-77. Ty Palmer’s (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) 75 provided Guilford’s fourth score Sunday and moved him up nine spots to 53rd place at 233.

Quakers’ freshman Kell Graham played as an individual and shared 37th place with an 81-74-74-229.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers are back in action at the NCAA Preview Tournament September 18-20 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-Inn-The-Hills, Florida, site of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships.
