GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College volleyball team topped NCAA Division II member Pfeiffer University Wednesday, 3-0.

The Pride (3-2) used a 6-1 run in the first set to establish a 13-9 lead. Shayla Moss recorded two of her four kills during the run, while Holly Anders recorded her lone service ace of the match.

After the Falcons (0-5) pulled within 16-13, Greensboro ran off six straight points to open up a nine-point margin, before going on to win the set 25-18. Rachel Suttee paced the run with two service aces.

The Pride did not look back from there winning the set 25-19, taking a 2-0 lead.

Pfeiffer raced out to a 7-3 lead after dropping the second set, but the Pride responded with a 7-0 run to take a 10-7 lead.

The two teams remained close until Greensboro shut the door with a 9-1 run to win the set 25-16, securing the straight set victory.

“We are really excited to record a straight set victory in our home opener,” Head Coach Kaci Pike said. “The team did a great job with keeping the ball going throughout the night, but we still have a lot of things to work on as we progress through the season.”

Johnson and Summers each recorded a team-high five kills, while Moss tallied four kills. Tori Belcher paced the Pride defense with 16 digs. Haley Bohrer and Darrian Bolt combined for 18 assists.

The Pride volleyball team will return to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court Saturday for day one of the 2016 Greensboro College Volleyball Invitational. The Pride will take on Piedmont College at 10 a.m., before squaring off with Eastern Mennonite University at 4p.m.
