Women’s Tennis Completes Day One of Elon Fall Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team completed the first day of competition at the Elon Invitational on Friday, Sept. 9, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

HIGHLIGHTS
Leading the way for the Phoenix was Suzanne Zenoni, who finished with a perfect day in singles and doubles competition. She advanced to Maroon Singles quarterfinals with 6-7 (5), 6-3, 4-2 victory before Gabi Wreder of Appalachian State had to retire in the third set.

Zenoni also paired with freshman Alex Koniaev in the Maroon Doubles flight, earning an 8-3 victory against Bygrave and Morse of App State to claim a spot in the semifinals of the draw.

In addition for the Phoenix, Maria Paraja advanced to the quarterfinals of the Powell Singles draw with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Radford’s Karlie Pope. Natalia Janowicz also earned a spot in the quarterfinals, winning her Gold Singles Flight match 6-2, 6-2 against Frida Cnossen of North Carolina Central.

Erica Braschi also advanced in Maroon Singles draw due to first-round bye.

UP NEXT
Day two begins at 9 a.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The finals for singles and doubles will be played on Sunday to conclude the fall tournament.
